Dr. Koppes receives the 2020 Rita Schaffer Young Investigator Award

Dr. Koppes was named the 2020 Rita Schaffer Young Investigator Award recipient. “[The award] is offered each year to stimulate research careers in biomedical engineering. Tess and David Finish Co-Ops

Tess and David successfully completed their Co-Ops! They both did 6-month Co-Ops beginning in the Summer. Tess did hers in the neuromuscular and movement disorders group at Biogen and David did his in R&D at Momenta Pharmaceuticals. Great job!

Research in the Advanced Biomaterials for Neuroengineering Laboratory (ABNEL) focuses on neural engineering and the interface between neurons and surrounding tissues. Specifically ABNEL develops novel and transformative devices, biomaterials, and biophysical-based therapies for this aims. Current work centers on the gut, heart, and central/peripheral nervous system.

NEWS

2020 CMBE Young Innovators were recognized at the 2020 BMES conference where they gave invited talks.

Dr. Koppes was awarded a 2020 CMBE Young Innovator award for the recent paper: Cholinergic Activation of Primary Human Derived Intestinal Epithelium Does Not Ameliorate TNF-α Induced Injury. The paper (first author by lab alumni Sanjin Hosic) was published as part of the eponymous special issue. Congrats Dr. Koppes!
